The Textile Triangle area is full of architectural gems from a bygone era, which still have many of their original features. Majestic mills, humble weavers cottages and grand houses. Imagine life in the mills and find out about the fabrics in the setting of luxurious homes such as Capesthorne Hall. Learn about the beautiful fabrics that are still used in their original rooms.
Visit the mansion at Tatton Park and see the powerhouse that was the huge kitchens, giving you a contrasting view of domestic life in the 1800's. Learn about the working conditions during the 1930’s when the mills prospered, at the award winning Silk Museum: Paradise Mill with its 26 jacquard hand looms. Or step back in time, over 500 years and marvel at the delights of the picture book moated manor-house named Little Moreton Hall, with its Elizabethan long gallery, cobbled courtyard and Great Hall.
See Brindley Mill a restored water-powered corn-mill built by James Brindley, the celebrated engineer who lived from 1716 to 1722 and visit the small museum dedicated to Brindley’s life and achievements. Waterpower was the wonder of the late 18th Century, and today you can see this technological breakthrough in action at Quarry Bank Mill & Styal Estate. Award-winning galleries are devoted to water and steam power, with hands-on displays and exhibits, an 1830s Beam Engine and a Horizontal Steam Engine which steam daily.
